Serving The Danville, Lewisburg, Milton &
Watsontown Area Since 1953

CATV Service, Inc. was founded in May of 1953 by Peter Walsonavich, with some assistance from his brother, John Walson. John Walson, the founder of Service Electric Co., is noted in the US Library of Congress as the founder of cable television. CATV Service was one of the early cable systems in the state and originally served Danville, PA with three network affiliate broadcast stations. By 1955, the service area was expanded to include the neighboring towns of Lewisburg, Milton and Watsontown while channel capacity was also increased to five channels. In 1959, Peter Walsonavich was the first to make use of terrestrial microwave radio frequency signals to import independent TV broadcast stations from New York. This delivered major league baseball and alternate TV programming to CATV subscribers. Although Mr. Walsonavich passed away in 1964, CATV Service, Inc. continued to evolve through the efforts of his sisters, Esther and Margaret Walsonavich. Esther (1990) and Margaret (2005) have also now passed away, however the Company remains in the family.

Today, CATV Service provides over 250 diversified broadcast, satellite cable, pay-per-view, High Definition and digital music channels. The cable system now consists of more than 100 miles of fiber optic cable and over 700 miles of coaxial plant. This infrastructure not only provides cable television but also broadband cable high speed Internet service through its partnership with PenTeleData. On Monday, November 3, 2008, CATV Service officially launched its residential Digital Phone service, completing its ability to provide the communications trifecta consisting of video, data and voice services.

CATV Service employs 34 full-time and 12 part-time employees in providing a wide array of telecommunications needs for over 18,000 homes, businesses, health, educational, and government organizations. In addition, CATV originates and produces local TV programming and daily news, weather and sports through its own local origination channel, CCN, the Community Cable Network.

CATV Service is proud to have served the Central Susquehanna Valley for over 55 years and remains committed to providing quality products and local customer service, because - our customers' community is our community too!
